VANCOUVER -- In the case of this years edition of the B.C. Lions, familiar faces can fool you. The veteran core remains intact and, for now, only two newcomers -- one on offence and one on defence -- have won jobs as starters. But the Lions have made several significant changes since they placed first in the West Division with a 13-5 mark and were upset in the 2012 West final by the Calgary Stampeders. "Theres a lot of different kinds of mixes, and its an entirely different team," said coach Mike Benevides. Most of the changes involve holdovers assuming new and expanded roles, including new positions, as Benevides and general manager Wally Buono follow through on their plan to make the team younger and stronger. "Right now, if I have to look at it and be honest, we have greater depth," said Benevides. "Theres more depth than we know about." The most prominent changes are on offence, where second-year quarterback Thomas DeMarco will back up starter Travis Lulay. DeMarco assumes Mike Reillys former backup role following his trade to Edmonton as a result of Lulays new contract. The Lions have also brought in former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Joey Elliott as quarterbacking insurance. In other prominent offensive revisions, slotbacks Nick Moore and Courtney Taylor replace all-time leading CFL receiver Geroy Simon (traded to Saskatchewan) and Arland Bruce (released and signed by Montreal). Wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux returns after two years in the NFL, giving the Lions a deep threat that they have lacked. Other changes on offence are less eye-catching but still significant because they involve an offensive line that was decimated by injuries at the guard position last season. Rookie Kirby Fabien, previously a tackle who was chosen seventh overall in the 2012 CFL draft but returned to the University of Calgary for another season, will start at right guard while Patrick Kabongo, 33, gets the call at left guard. Matt Norman, a second-year guard who is being groomed as Angus Reids eventual replacement at centre, could start the season in the middle as the veteran recuperates from a back injury. Norman is slated to move to the starting left guard spot once Reid is healthy. On defence, things are likely to be less animated following eccentric lineman Khalif Mitchells trade to the Toronto Argonauts. Key defensive-line changes include Keron Williams moving inside to Mitchells former tackle spot from defensive end, and second-year pro Jabar Westerman, the West Divisions top rookie in 2012, getting a starting job at end. The linebacking corps has also experienced change as 2012 CFL all-star Adam Bighill moves to the outside from the middle, where he ranked second in the league in tackles last season with 104. The move accommodates Solomon Elimimian, who returned from the NFL in the second half of 2012 and is more comfortable playing middle linebacker. Bighill is well versed in the outside spot, having played there as a rookie in 2011. The secondary has also undergone a shuffle as Korey Banks moves to nickelback, acting as a hybrid linebacker-defensive back from halfback, and J.R. LaRose takes over at safety. Cord Parks becomes the other newcomer to grab a starting spot at cornerback. In arguably the most dramatic change, veteran kicker Paul McCallum, the CFLs oldest player at 43, will focus on field goals in his 21st CFL season. Hugh ONeill, who spent the past two seasons serving as his understudy, is expected to handle kick-offs and possibly punts. "Certainly, there is tremendous value to having two (kickers) on the roster --for depth, for leg strength on kick-offs, for accuracy from (McCallums) placekicking, and punting," said Benevides. In another special teams adjustment, newcomer Korey Williams could feature prominently as a punt and kick-off returner. The Lions assigned him to active duty to prevent another club from plucking him off the practice roster. "Were a good, solid team," said McCallum. "Weve got a good core group of players. We work hard, are very talented, have lots of depth. So for me, if I have to say expectations as far as wins and losses, and expectations as far as going out and playing hard, we should be successful." The Lions will open the season Friday in Calgary, hoping for a chance at some revenge after last years West final loss. However, Benevides said the Lions have to put the bitterness of that setback behind them. "Really, lets make sure we learned some lessons," he said. "But, really, we cant live with that. This is a whole different team, a whole different year. The league is different. "So, for me, the approach is: Lets move on." Black Saints Jerseys . "I wrote 36 on my sheet at the beginning of the game," the Cincinnati coach said, referring the yard line the ball would need to be snapped from. Elite Saints Jerseys . Robredo, ranked No. 16, bounced back from an upset loss to Leonardo Mayer in the second round of the Royal Guard Open in Chile last week to down Carreno Busta in 1 hour, 25 minutes. On a day filled mostly with qualifying matches, fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain also entered the second with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win over Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, while Guido Pella of Argentina defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance. http://www.officialsaintsnflauthenticshop.com/boston-scott-stitched-jersey/ . Irving scored 23 points, Tristan Thompson had 20 points and 10 rebounds and the Cavaliers beat the Denver Nuggets 117-109 on Friday night. Youth Saints Jerseys . In Europe, top teams seem to be largely happy with their squads after spending nearly $1 billion in the off-season. And although English league clubs are unlikely to splash cash in January, Arsenal and Chelsea could be tempted to strengthen their squads with new strikers. TreQuan Smith Stitched Jersey . Carey Price didnt, but he still came out on top against one of his rivals for the No. 1 job at the Sochi Games. The Anahim Lake, B.C., native was stellar in making 39 saves in his home province and Lars Eller got credit for a bizarre short-handed winner as the Canadiens defeated the Canucks 4-1. Yesterday the top lane, and today the jungle.Last year was one of the stronger years for the jungle class coming into Worlds, and this year its even more stacked with talent across the board. While the top name coming into the tournament is no stranger to high placements in his career, a few newcomers find their way onto the list at their rookie World Championships.5. Marcin Jankos JankowskiThe fifth spot, like yesterday with the top laners, was a point of contention for me. If we were to base this solely on skill ceiling, I feel like Liu Mlxg Shi-yu would shine over a large portion of this ranking. Team SoloMids Dennis Svenskeren Johnsen came on late in the season, and he was the star in the North American League Championship finals against Cloud9 when his punishing jungle style tormented Will Meteos Hartman all night long.In the end, it was a decision between two of Europes best: Splyces Jonas Trashy Andersen and H2Ks Jankos. The clean, supportive play of Splyces jungler versus the upbeat tempo and game-changing abilities of H2Ks.Jankos edges out the rest of the field just barely. When it comes to picking a player who has the best chance of breaking through as a star on the international stage, Jankos stands out for me. His heavy pressure in the early-game is key to H2Ks success; unfortunately, that got less press due to a certain South Korean import coming in to take the European league by storm at the start of the year.4. Hung Karsa Hau-HsuanOne of the three world-class players in Flash Wolves starting five, Karsa comes in at the fourth spot. Last year was an introduction for Karsa to the Worlds stage. It was a strong first impression with the Wolves getting to the quarterfinals in large part to his carrying ability, along with his partner in crime, Huang Maple Yi-Tang, the teams ace mid laner. Coming into Worlds, his aggressive, carnivore style should serve him as well as it did in the summer season of Taiwans premier domestic league: Karsa secured 28 more kills than the second-place jungler in the competition. The Flash Wolves have a clear weakness -- Im staring at the bottom lane -- and it isnt Hu SwordArt Shuo-Jie at the support role. Itll be up to Karsa and Maple to be the carrying force of the Wolves if they want to go farther than the top-8.3. Kim Trick Gang-yunIn the spring, Trick came to Europe after a tumultuous stay on CJ Entus in his native country of South Korea. His in-your-face style won him his fair share of fans, and G2 Esports won the European LCS off his straightforward offensive play and chemistry with mid laner Luka PerkZ Perkovi?. Tricks statline of a 6.2 kill/death/assist ratio (KDA) and moree than three kills a game put him ahead of the pack, and he was awarded the leagues MVP award.ddddddddddddWhile his play at the Mid-Season Invitational was sloppy to say the least, his summer season was even better than his previous. PerkZ had a down season, and while the added priority of new AD carry Jesper Zven Svenningsen took away from PerkZs overall kills, Trick became more effective with less grey screens in his second season. Well see if his ascension and development as a jungler can continue in his second crack at the international stage.2. Han Peanut Wang-hoThe entire year has been the development of Peanut from a one-dimensional player to a multi-faceted jungler. His progression was so stunted on NaJin due to the erratic roster changes, so the spring season felt like his true rookie season with the Tigers, where he was the full-fledged starter. In his first season, the Battle Ward nickname stuck, with his play being all offense with little anything else, and the blood of his enemies being the best way for his team to see the map.Since losing in the finals of the spring split, however, Peanut has become a more polished player, warding more and showing hes more than just a mechanical maestro. He isnt perfect, and his performance in big game matches will need to get better if ROX wants to win Worlds, but its remarkable to see how far Peanut has come in one year under the tutelage of a strong coaching staff and supportive teammates.1. Ming Clearlove KaiPeanut has been great, but he hasnt been Clearlove, who is having a career year for the ages. He averaged the most kills of any jungler in the league with the least amount of deaths. It isnt that Clearlove is great in one area: hes seemingly great in all of them. Regardless of the meta or the champion pool, you can expect Clearlove to work through any barrier and continue his success. Usually, a KDA isnt the barometer of how truly great a player is, but it kind of says something when Clearlove is three points higher than any other full-time starter in the league. There are a lot of up-and-comers each year, yet Clearlove remains as solid as Lee Faker Sang-hyeok at the mid lane position, and the two continue to get better every year. He was at Worlds in 2012 when his Team WE dynasty fell after a controversial loss in the quarterfinals to CLG.EU, and hes here today on another Chinese dynasty in the form of Edward Gaming. His trophy case already overflowing. The lone spot remaining is for one trophy, and one trophy alone: the Summoners Cup.
